Raising cows humanely
These days rose veal sold at the market is very different from the white veal meat sold on the Continent. It is not legal in the UK to produce this white veal..also known as Bob-veal. We all believe farming should NOT involve cruelty. Stileman's farm is RSPCA approved and provides excellent meat from excellent cows. Rose veal cows are raised in the fields, fed by their mothers and then on the lush grass of Oxted. They are older than Bob calves, but not as old as beef cattle, and usually of a different breed. Here are some of Stileman's veal calves, nice and warm in the shed when they were brought indoors during the snow! Veal calves are often the bullocks born into the dairy herds, or the cows that are not suitable for milking. They are raised, quite happily, kept with their mothers until they are weened and enjoy a good quality of life. Stileman's accept cows into their herds for all sorts of reasons. Unwanted by other farmers, without Stileman's farm, they would never roam in a field or enjoy a life in the same way a beef or dairy cow is permitted to do.
